How to Embed a Widget in Slite

Slite supports rich URL embeds natively in its editor. Paste an Embeddy widget URL into any Slite document and it renders as a live, interactive inline embed — no plugins or workarounds needed. Perfect for adding dashboards, forms, or interactive content to your team's knowledge base.

Prerequisites

Before embedding, make sure you have the following ready:

  • An Embeddy widget: Create one for free at embeddy.ai/dashboard. Your widget must be published (not in draft mode) so it is publicly accessible.
  • Your Embed Link: In the Embeddy dashboard, open your widget and copy the Embed Link — the direct URL that looks like https://embeddy.ai/webhost/WIDGET_ID?widget_props_id=PROPS_ID.
  • A Slite workspace: Any Slite plan works — Free, Standard, or Premium. Embeds are supported across all plans.

Where is my Embed Link? In the Embeddy dashboard, select your widget, click the Share / Embed panel, and look for the Embed Link option. It is the direct URL — not the <iframe> snippet.

Method 1: /embed Command

Recommended — dedicated embed block

Slite's slash command menu includes an Embed option that creates a dedicated embed block for displaying external URLs inline in your document.

  1. 1

    Open your Slite document

Navigate to the document where you want to display the widget. Click anywhere in the body to place your cursor.

  2. 2

    Type /embed

The slash command menu will appear. Select Embed from the list to insert an embed block.

  3. 3

    Paste your Embeddy widget URL

An input field appears asking for a URL. Paste your Embed Link:

    https://embeddy.ai/webhost/WIDGET_ID?widget_props_id=PROPS_ID
  4. 4

    Press Enter

Slite will resolve the URL and render your widget inline. The embed appears live and interactive directly in the document within a few seconds.

Tip: Slite auto-saves your documents, so as soon as the embed is added, all team members with access to the document will see it immediately — no publish step needed.

Method 2: Paste URL Directly

Quick alternative — paste and choose embed

Slite can auto-detect URLs pasted on their own line and offer to convert them into rich embeds.

  1. 1

Click on an empty line in your Slite document

Place your cursor on a blank line where you want the widget.

  2. 2

    Paste your Embeddy widget URL

Paste the URL and press Enter. Slite may display a popup with options:

    • →Embed — renders the widget inline (choose this)
    • →Link — keeps it as a plain hyperlink
    • →Dismiss — ignores the paste action
  3. 3

    Select "Embed"

Choose Embed to render the widget inline. Slite loads your widget identically to Method 1.

Note: If Slite does not auto-detect the URL as embeddable, use Method 1 with the/embed command instead. This forces Slite to treat the URL as an embed regardless of auto-detection.

Resizing the Widget

Slite provides visual controls to resize embedded content directly in the editor.

Adjust Width

Click the embed to select it. Drag handles appear on the sides. Drag left or right to adjust the width. The embed scales proportionally within the document column.

Adjust Height

A drag handle on the bottom edge lets you increase or decrease the embed height. For taller widgets like dashboards, drag downward to reveal more content.

Moving the block: Click and drag the embed block's handle (usually a six-dot grip icon on the left) to reposition it within the document.

Limitations

Slite embeds are straightforward but have a few constraints:

Supported URL patterns

Slite uses an embed resolution service (similar to oEmbed/Iframely) that supports many common URL patterns. Embeddy URLs are standard HTTPS URLs and should resolve correctly. If auto-detection fails, the /embed command is the reliable fallback.

Login-required widgets

If your Embeddy widget requires authentication to view, it will not load inside Slite's embed frame. Set your widget visibility to Public in the Embeddy dashboard to ensure it works in Slite.

Mobile app rendering

Embeds may render differently or not at all in Slite's mobile app compared to the desktop or web version. Test on both platforms if your team uses Slite mobile frequently.

Troubleshooting

Embed shows as a plain link

If pasting the URL just creates a hyperlink instead of an embed:

  • Use the /embed command instead of pasting directly. This forces Slite to treat the URL as an embed.
  • Paste on an empty line. If you paste inside existing text, Slite may default to creating a link.

Embed appears blank or fails to load

Ensure your widget is published and set to Public visibility in the Embeddy dashboard. Also verify the URL is correct by opening it directly in your browser — if it loads there, it should load in Slite.

Embed is too small or content is clipped

Click the embed and use the bottom drag handle to increase the height. If the embed is still too small, try widening it by dragging the side handles.
